Here are some reasons on gaining weight while traveling based on my personal experience of backpacking. In Thailand we would both lose weight on our 25. If you’re carrying less than 15-20 pounds, consider a frameless backpack, and you’ll be able to drop your backpack weight to under two pounds. But weight isn’t the only factor in choosing a backpack. Fortunately, backpacking itself offers a ledger-busting solution to the accounting problem. Duration and intensity make our sport uniquely efficient when it comes to weight loss. On average, a 180-pound man carrying a 40-pound pack across steep terrain combusts more than 600 calories an hour while backpacking. Also, don't worry if you feel as if you have put on weight, the plane and the heat and humidity make everyone hold fluid and feel a bit puffy. Don't stress as soon as you come home you will be ok. Just go away and enjoy yourself, your not on holidays all the time and it would be a pity to spoil it by being worried about your diet. As the previous poster said, fresh fruit, rice, stirfriesand such should help you stay in control. Oh yes and lots and lots of bottled water. Have a wonderful Time. Fionna, I agree with LimitedEdition, You can eat a fat-free diet and still maintain your current or even put on extra weight. Its all about calorie intake. Fresh fruit may seem healthy but fruit is considerably high in calories. Fruit is great, but if someone is going to eat a massive bowl of it they may aswell have a small portion of eggs on toast! Yoghurt.one again VERY high in calories especially the natural varieties. I doubt they serve yoplait no fat yoghurt which is the only one i will eat. Whilst your on holidays - i suggest still being sensible with options (obviously dont choose anything creamy based etc) and have small portions you should be fine. Generally i find people (such as myself!) who are dieting know when they have over eaten. So be honest with yourself and as others have suggested drink plenty of water and instead of taking a tuk-tuk - walk! Have a great time, enjoy yourself. Very sound advice from Kimberlyjane. With salads travellers are concerned about the water used to wash them.I ate cooked foods and never had a real problem.Raw foods like salads and oysters/uncooked seafoods can cause a problem. The array of food available inThailand is amazing.Grilled fish and vegtables/salad.Tom yum soups.chicken with veg.As long as the food is cooked preferrably in front of you there shouldnt be a problem.,this is why the street vendors are becoming more popular with tourists because the food is preparded in front of you and because of the turn over the food is fresh. • FAQ IMPORTANT - Is it safe to swim in Phuket?
